The Power-QWK Prune Facility
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Power-QWK Prune allows you to discard from your message base(s)
any messages which are older than a specified number of days.
These discarded messages may be either deleted entirely or
simply moved from their conference of origin to the Prune
Archive conference, depending on what you have set up in
Power-QWK Configuration (if you can't remember, go and look
before proceeding with any Prune actions).
If you have asked Power-QWK to maintain a Prune Archive
conference then by default messages pruned from ALL
conferences will be placed within it. You can cause certain
conferences to be excluded from Prune Archive by setting
appropriate values in the Power-QWK Prune Archive Map.
Press M and then F1 at the Conference Menu for details.
At the Power-QWK Conference Menu, you can also specify a
(possibly different) number of 'Prune Days' for each conference
by highlighting a conference name and then pressing D.
Specifying a value of 999 days causes the highlighted conference
never to be Pruned. i.e., all messages in that conference will be
retained forever.
Any conference which you do not specify in this manner will take
the 'Default Prune Days' set in Power-QWK Configuration.
Special cases are the Personal Mail conference and the Prune
Archive conference, if you have them.
The Personal Mail conference defaults to 999 days, unless you
specifically change it at the Conference Menu. Similarly, the
Prune Archive Conference defaults to 100 days.
Note that if you ask Power-QWK to Prune 'all' conferences, the
Prune Archive conference will not be Pruned. This conference may
only be Pruned specifically by highlighting its name at the
Conference Menu, pressing P for Prune and then C for Current
conference. The best time to do this is immediately following a
Prune of 'all' conferences.
Note also that specifying 0 (zero) Prune Days for a conference
causes ALL messages in that conference to be discarded whenever
you perform a Prune of that conference.
Specifying 1 day keeps only the messages (if any) dated the day
that the Prune is performed.
Specifying 2 days keeps messages (if any) dated the day that
the Prune is performed, plus those (if any) dated the day
preceding that on which the Prune is performed, and so on.
Prune always searches for messages to discard starting with the
oldest message in a conference, working chronologically forwards
through the conference.
Prune stops searching for discards when it encounters a message
which either has not been read or is newer than the current
'Prune Days'.
Prune NEVER discards messages which have not been read. Also, it
will not discard messages dated later than an unread message,
in case such messages form part of a conversational thread which
includes the unread message.
The effects of the Prune function may be further influenced by
any Alpha, Beta or Delta flags which have been set on messages.
For details, enter any conference and, when you have a message
on display, press F2 to call up the Message Pick List. Then,
press F1 for Help.
